(2018) GrandMaster Tamaz Gelashvili Visits EGCC
GrandMaster Tamaz Gelashvili, who has twice won the Georgian National Championship, participates in a simultaneous exhibition at EGCC to donate food to Rensselaer's Concerns-U food pantry. Tamaz went over several interesting games before trouncing all competitors who were willing to step forward.
(2018) The Right Move Capital District Champions
EGCC's 2018 Scholastic Team competed in 10 scholastic tournaments during the 2017-2018 school year. When it was all over, they had clinched First Place for the sixth time in eight years!
(2017) GrandMaster Irina Krush Visits EGCC
America's only active female chess grandmaster and 7-Time U.S. Women's Champion, Irina Krush visited a packed house of 80 people at EGCC. This well known international competitor talked candidly for an hour, gave a chess lecture, and then KRUSHED all 33 games in a simultaneous exhibition. Channel 10 provided news covereage.
(2016) Grandmaster Michael Rhode Visits EGCC
Grandmaster Michael Rhode travelled from NYC to give EGCC members a chess talk and a horrible beating in a simultaneous exhibition. Michael destroyed EGCC, 30-0, before heading back to the train station and calling it a day!
(2015) India's “Father of Chess” Visits EGCC
International Master Manuel Aaron visited EGCC and gave members a chess lesson. Afterwards he held a simultaneous exhibition and finished 30-1-1. Manuel was India's first International Master representing India in international competition back in the 60's and early 70's and was instrumental in leading the way for others to follow.
